ABIGAIL LUCY BRUFORD

I have a deep fascination with folklore, stories woven through time, carried by the land, and whispered through nature. This passion shapes my work as I create botanical, moon, and skull-themed plaster casts and ceramics, taking impressions from clay to preserve the delicate beauty of the natural world. Growing up in Devon, a land rich in magical history, I first developed a deep connection to nature. After moving to studying Fine Art and spending nearly two decades in London, I was drawn back to the countryside and now live in Surrey. This shift allowed me to rekindle my love for nature, reconnecting with the spiritual and historical roots that continue to inspire my work. Whether you’re a botanist or a wild child at heart, my pieces resonate with those who find magic in the world around them.

With the recent addition of a kiln to my practice, I’m expanding into ceramics, creating altar ornaments, bas-relief plaster impressions, printers’ tray wall art, and jewellery. I work with high-quality plaster and clay, capturing the finest details, from the veins of a leaf to the texture of a flower petal, preserving fleeting moments of beauty.

Cyclical living plays a key role in my creative process, guiding me to work in harmony with nature’s rhythms and the changing seasons. Many of my pieces are rooted in these cycles, botanical casts capturing summer’s peak bloom, moon-phase-inspired jewellery reflecting celestial movement, and winter’s introspective energy embodied in textured forms. I also incorporate foraged materials, ensuring my process remains sustainable and aligned with nature’s flow.

My creative journey began in 2006 at Camden Lock Market, where I sold up-cycled jewellery made from found objects. Over time, my designs gained international recognition, with pieces stocked in Selfridges, Debenhams, and boutiques worldwide. My work has been featured in leading publications, including Grazia, Elle, and The Sunday Times. While I still create jewellery, my focus has shifted to one-of-a-kind designs that incorporate semi-precious stones, vintage components, and organic forms.

At its heart, my work is an invitation, to honour the past, embrace the present, and find meaning in the cycles of life, the moon, and the earth itself.
